Anyone else besides me have that experience where you get on the scales and it is actually lighter than you anticipated – not just a half a pound or so but 2-3 pounds?
What do you do next? Do you get back on to see if it is the same? If it is not, then what…do you get on again for best 2 out of 3, best 3 out of 4? Which number do you finally believe as “true”?

It seems sometimes we do that with the Lord too. We step up onto the “Does He Love Me” scales, and the pointer says “Yes!”, so we step off and get on again, and up comes “He likes you” or “He looks at you as one of the family”, we have all kinds of answers, or pseudo-answers for the question “Does He love Me?”. There are the objections because we feel our works are not up to par, or we are a substandard Christian by nature or that we have done something sinful in the past (incidentally, who hasn’t?) and have not accepted His forgiveness – it has become something we cannot get past, and now it weighs us down, literally.

God wants us to lose weight – those things that encumber us. He asks us to cast ALL our cares upon Him because He cares for us. Would you step on the scale holding a suitcase or wearing a backpack? Of course not, yet for many of us, that is how we approach our relationship with God, still dragging the baggage that was already checked-in at the Baggage Check-In counter called Calvary
