Jesus Himself
stood among them.
But they
were startled
and frightened...
and He said
to them,
Why are you
troubled?
[Luke 24:36-38]
***********************
"How come I don't feel
peaceful, yet."
(Thoughtful silence.)
(Kvetchy frown.)

[SILENCE.]

"LORD?"

[SILENCE.]

(Impatient look up at ceiling.)
"LORD?
(Yell.)
LORD!"

"What,
My precious."

"What'd Ya mean:
WHAT?
(Irritable squint.)
(Grimmace at top of lamp.)
How come I'm
not PEACEFUL,
YET?"

"Yet,
My beloved?"

"Yeah;
I thought
believing
in JESUS was
supposed to bring
me PEACE, and
everything!
(Irritable frown.)
SO?
Where's......MINE?"

[PATIENT SMILE.]
"Your what,
My precious?"

"My PEACE!
MY PEACE!
(Impatient, crabby look.)
Where IS IT?"

[SMILE.]

"WELL?
When am I gonna
GET IT?"

[PATIENT SIGH.]

(Irritable, sarcastic voice.)
"Yeah.....and, I thought
I was supposed to,
like.....all of sudden...
be able to SING!"
(Nasal snort.)

[SHAKE HEAD.]
[CHUCKLE.]

"That's always how
I pictured CHRISTIANS:
real peaceful, and being
able to SING!"

[MORE PATIENT NODDING.]

"So.......like,
what happened
to ME?"

"This is a Mystery,
My beloved."
[SMILE!]

"So.....what is it:
my JEWISHNESS*
getting in the WAY?"

[GENTLE LAUGH!]

"Yeah, that's I figured.
my predominant, and
extremely irritable,
and pessimistic, JEWISH
gene is, like,
overpowering...
the OTHER."

"The other what,
My beloved."

"Ya know: the.....eh,
the....CHRISTIAN thing."

"What thing,
My precious."

"Eh.....You know:
(Wave puny hand.)
the THING."

[PATIENT NOD.]
"Ah, yes."
[SMILE.]

"SO?
What should I DO?"

[SILENCE.]

"How do I GET IT?"

"Read My Word,
My beloved.
[PATIENT PAUSE.]
And,
sing
to Me."
