Get a Move On 7/4/08

Get a move on and get out of bed,
There's a storm brewing up ahead.
There are so many things I've left undone,
It's a pitiful disgrace to the Son.

When the Spirit came to live within me,
He gave me ears to hear and eyes to see,
And now it's come to this hour of truth
To see if I will get on the move.

The marching orders God gives I like,
When far from home the thunder strikes,
But when I am back at home again,
The sloth and laziness comes back then.

It seems like I'm always on the run,
And nothing at home ever gets done,
For by the time I get here, I'm spent,
And all I can do is pay the rent.

I want to offer my God a place
That He can call His holy space,
Where He can send a stranger to my door,
And I won't be ashamed of the floor.

But to these ends, I must get up, arise,
And even myself, I must surprise,
By taking in with the daily toil,
The means to get rid of my own soil.

I've let it go for so long now,
That I must break the sweat upon my brow,
To make up for the time that's lost,
For the putting off has taken its cost.

But I'll put a smile upon my face,
Because God has given me the grace,
To know charity begins at home,
And last, but not least, I'm not alone.
