She is in her mid twenties, she is extremely dark in complexion, but when you fix your eye on her for so long you’ll see a ray of light as if you are a watching a mirror placed in the sun that glitter, you will soon discover it is not from a light but of course the reflection of a dazzling skin of a young and beautiful damsel with a mesmerizing look that makes gazing at her irresistible. She is beauty-personified, she walks gracefully like a model doing cat walk, she carry herself in such a manner as the train of a visiting queen Elizabeth walking on the shores of Nigeria. When she opens her mouth you only need to see how immaculate and well set her teeth were. Her laughter is so melodious and infectious to the ear that you wish she continue laughing till eternity. She has the voice of an angel, sweeter than the famous Nightingale. She looks so fragile, so innocent that the impulse you feel meeting her for the first time is how you can protect her from danger, even though there was none.
In fact when you look at what almighty God used to crown her head as hair, you just whistle and say ‘God did really give the creation of this damsel enough attention’ because her hair is so dark, long, silky and at the same time shining like a refined gold. The hair is so long that it flowed down to her waist. She stands above six feet, has flesh in appropriate pound, and a shape widely regarded as figure eight, which a Yoruba will described as ‘ile tiro’ shape. She is so elegant that you’ll continue to wonder if she was born or she practically dropped from heaven.
This perfectly made and richly endowed young lady with a sound mind is no other person than Jaiyeoba Ornament (not her real name) an ND II student of Computer Engineering, Lagos state Polytechnics, Ikorodu campus.
She used to have a dream of working as an executive in one the world’s top communication firm, unknown to her, all her extremely breathtaking beauty and dreams are about to become history.
As a young lady desperate to secure admission in to a higher institution of learning, she had been an ‘annual customer’ to Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), in fact I guess her name would have been familiar to JAMB’s data base because she had patronised the examination board for at least seven consecutive years before she finally met Austin.
Austin, a student of the Lagos State Polytechnic, was an old Engineering student of the Lagos State Polytecnic. Ornament that was desperately searching for admission naturally warmed up to Austin. But never could she have imagined that meeting Austin was the beginning of an end to her blossoming life so full of vigour and passion, and her desire to launch in to the world to get her share of what life has to offer.
Ornament had just walked into the lobby of the engineering department where other students were standing, waiting to see if their name was in the admission list that was suppose to be released that day. While there, a young man walked up to her and offered to help in order to make sure her name was among the yet-to be released list. Although she was a little bit reluctant because she hardly knew this man, but on a second thought, she felt it could be help from above, probably an angel from God.
The young man who happens to be Austin Albert truly and successfully helped Ornament to secure an admission she had longed for in so many years. She heaved a sigh of relief believing that God has finally answered her prayers.
But what will be the gain of a young man who had gone all the way to help Ornament secure the admission? ‘Nothing goes for nothing’, so the saying goes remember! Austin suddenly became friendlier and constantly paid Ornament weekend visits. On one of such visits he asked her for an intimate friendship; after all he had “watered the ground” and now is the time to step on wet ground. Shocked by the subtle request by the man she had seen as a brother who was there for her when she needed help most, Ornament bluntly turned down the request and asked the young man to take his leave.
Austin being who he is, refused to take no for an answer, besides, the girl in question is too good to be left alone for those who may not have the faintest idea of how she came in to the school. He went home more determined to re-strategise and represent his proposal, this time in a more constructive and creative manner.
Of course he is good at it and he could count on his previous experiences in wooing stubborn girls like Ornament.
After weeks of wooing, toasting and pressure, Ornament finally gave in. She had thought “this guy has been on my nerves for too long a time and he is not giving me breathing space. Well, maybe I should just give him a chance and see if he could be a nice guy all together, besides that is one thing I could do to show my appreciation for helping me secure the admission”.
That decision indeed turned out to be the worst decision she had ever made and of course the greatest mistake of her life.
Austin was ignorantly an HIIV patient, a disease he contacted obviously from one of his numerous girl friends and inevitably, he got Ornament infected with the killer disease.
Few weeks in to second semester of her first year, Ornament began to fall sick. Almost every week she had to visit the school clinic. Then one day the clinic doctor became worried about Ornament’s constant visit and consequently advised her to go for a blood test. The result was so shocking, you can’t believe it, our beautiful damsel is HIV positive! Thanks to play boy Austin who ignorantly passed on the virus to our beautiful Ornament, who now determined to pass the virus to as many willing guys on campus.
Ornament had been true to her words, because within the two month of discovering her status, she has pass the virus to fifteen innocent guys and about five lecturers on campus. To her, spreading the virus is like an urgent crusade which must be done with great urgency.
Some of her friends started noticing this strange promiscuous behaviour of hers, while some were looking for ways of saving her from impending doom, others were busy making her the topic of their gossips, she also began to take the major headlines of all the press board on campus. She was tagged “hottest babe on campus”, “Animashaun” and the likes.
But on July 1st, 2008 something unforgettable, beyond the control of human happened to our dear Ornament which really opens a new chapter of her life.
Ornament has been targeting another prey, which happen to be a devout Christian, unknown to her, she had been using all her known tactics to nail Henry Shisoloju, that is the Christian student’s name, but all proved abortive, she finds it difficult to back off because the brother has all traits she normally look for in her prey. He is handsome, innocent, brilliant and lively as she is, before she was infected with the deadly virus.
On that fateful night she dressed ready to go and fulfil her mission, she followed the brother all the way from his house to somewhere only God knows. Though her intention was to bang into the brothers room and force herself on him, but was disappointed that she met the brother at the bus stop waiting for a cab, that is how she made up her mind to follow him because she has vouch to have the brother that night. But unknown to Henry that Ornament has been following him, he innocently was on his way to a Youth Vigil at nearby Redeemed Christian Church of God by Ikorodu Garage.
As Ornament discovered that Henry was going for a vigil, she was unperturbed, since that was not the first time she and her preys had done their illicit affair in the church yard. So she started scheming ways of getting her prey but as she was busy with this thought on her mind, a prophecy came from the man of God that there is a particular lady amidst the gathering on vengeance mission, “the lady should come out now before the Holy Spirit arrests her out”.
Ornament was still busy with her scheming when a powerful force pushed her to the front of the altar. After a thorough prayer by the Pastor and the congregation, she finally confessed her sins and through series of counselling from the pastors, Ornament finally decided to serve the lord for the rest of her life and she has then been trusting God for her healing and had changed her mission from destroying lives to saving lives.
