A Study on: Ephesians 5:22-33

The Apostle Paul describes the relationship of Christ and His church with the most familiar example and that is the relationship between a husband and wife. I think the relationship between a husband and wife is a replica of the relationship between Christ and His church. In fact I think God wanted to make us understand this divine relationship from the very beginning and that is why He formed a family consist of two different personalities into one. And He said ‘they will be one flesh’ (Genesis 2: 24).

Now, let’s study this passage step by step as Apostle Paul had explained the ‘relationship between Christ and His church’ in an excellent yet very simple manner.

Status of Christ in the church:
1.He is the HEAD of the church. (v.23)
2.He is the SAVIOUR of the church. (v. 23)

Status of the church in Christ:
1.The church is the BODY of Christ. (v.23)
2.The church is the SAVED ONE in Christ. (v.23)

What Christ has done for His church?
1.He loved the church (v.25)
2.He gave Himself for the church (v.25)
3.He washed the church through His word (v.26)
4.He feeds the church (v. 29)
5.He cares for His church (v.29)

How does He view His church?
1.He wants to make the church HOLY (v.27)
2.He wants to make His church CLEAN (v. 26)
3.He wants to make His church a RADIANT CHURCH (v.27)
4.He wants make the church BLAMELESS (v.27)
5.He wants the church to be UNITED with Him (v.31)

What should be our RESPONSE?
We can respond to His amazing and wonderful act of love and care only in two ways:
1.By SUBMITTING to Him (v. 22 & 24)
2.By RESPECTING (Showing Reverence) to His deity (v.33)

As the body of Christ it is really essential for all of us to comprehend this divine relationship and act upon what we were taught by Apostle Paul today.

Let’s just submit ourselves and show reverence to Christ’s deity.
