What happens when we die is an age old question that many people ponder at some point in their lives. We have no definite answers to this question as no one, of course, has come back and explained to us what happens at death. There are, however, some clues in the bible. Take this scripture from Ecclesiastes 9:5.
It says, "The living are conscious that they will die;but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all."

Or this scripture from Psalms. 146:4, "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;in that day his thoughts do perish."

Or this one from John 11:11-14: "Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep..."

So, according to the bible; when we die, our souls don't move onto another place. We fall 'asleep' in death until we are awakened, resurrected whereupon we will be given new, undying bodies and enjoy a wonderful new life.
What then, if a person doesn't believe in the bible teachings of death? Well, there are numerous theories abound about how our souls depart our flesh and go to a heavenly place. Many people claim to have seen ghosts or to have contacted their loved ones through a medium. It can bring great comfort to some people to contact the deceased, to be told that their loved ones are still around in spirit.

Death though is not the end, by any means. It is the one certainty in life but it shouldn't mean the end of our eventual eternal life. Whether you believe in the resurrection or the heavenly hope, death is just a stage, a chapter and we will, one day see our loved ones again. That is also a certainty.
