Most times as women we tend to carry a lot on our shoulders. The cost of living in the world has risen in varying percentages making life even harder for most. The situation is worsened if one has a spouse who does not try to contribute to the welfare of the home.

As Christian women half the time we approach our problems with the wrong perspective. We ask God to give us strength to endure the problem and most of the times, God does give us the strength to endure the trying time and before we know it five years would have gone by and we would still be in the same situation and wonder if God is really listening to our prayers.

The truth is God is listening to our prayers, the question is, are we praying the right prayers? Asking for strength so that you may go through the situation that is at hand is not the same as asking God to take away the bad situation. Sometimes paying attention to listening to our instincts will allow us to listen in on what God is telling us to pray for.

Due to the overwhelming things that surround us most times, it becomes harder for us to focus on what we need and not what we want.
What we need is to be whole beings even in situations that require us to panic and scream our lungs out. Being able to feel secure and knowing that whatever situation that may arise from anywhere, we are more that able to stand even after the trying situation has passed.

So how do we learn to change the situations that arise in our lives? One thing we should note is that nowadays we don’t have husbands or fathers who petition God on our behalf. They are too busy doing what pleases them. This unfortunately has resulted in women carrying around a lot of baggage, which weighs us down and reduces our spirit.

The key to retaining that spirit is to empower ourselves with knowledge from women who have gone before us. It’s in this spirit of sisterhood that our lives are enriched and strengthened. The provocations that we face today come in different forms, bills, sicknesses, bareness, infidelity, and irresponsibility from the people we ought to depend on, drunkenness, abuse, luck of money, battering, and so on.

Hannah had provocations in her life which caused her to weep and drown in self-pity. Her husband in this case was too busy buying her gifts that didn’t feel the void that was in her heart. She carried so much baggage that one day she finally went to the temple to give it up to God. She reached the point where she recognized what her trouble was and finally asked God for the right thing.

She probably prayed for strength to endure the situation she was in and also the insults that flowed in her direction but the only time that her situation changed was when she realized that God was more than able to right what was wrong in her life and off load that baggage that she was carrying. She poured out her soul to God and she went her way, and did eat and her countenance was sad no more.

Sometimes recognizing what is really wrong in our lives can make the difference between enduring and being securely happy in knowing that God is there to make our situations disappear.
Hannah teaches us that going to God and pouring out our sorrows will take the provocations out of our paths, living us to enjoy a more fulfilled life.

1 Samuel 1
