Recently my family has struggled with finances. We have never been without but I was fearful and anxious about the circumstances we were in. One morning while I was praying, God spoke into my heart. He showed me the importance of speaking His own beautifully written words over the circumstances in our lives. This is the day that God opened my heart and showed me the difference between reading His words and speaking His words.

The Bible clearly teaches us that death and life are in the power of the tongue [Proverbs 18:21]. That the words spoken out of our very mouth determines if we bring upon ourselves cursing or blessings. That morning God took me to the time when Jesus was being tempted in the wilderness by the devil (Matthew 4:1:11). As I was studying this out, God pointed out three different points for me to look at.

The first point was that the devil was using God's own words to try and fit his own circumstance. Okay, let that sink in for a minute. The devil was manipulating God's own words to fit his own circumstance, his own agenda. I have to say, this touched pretty close to home. Whether we intentionally do it or not, it is very easy to justify our actions by changing God's written words to fit our own circumstance. We must remember that when we speak God's words into our lives, we must speak these words for their intended purpose. Not to fulfill our own personal agenda, but to fulfill God's purpose in our lives.

The second point that spoke to me was that Jesus Christ used God's own words to overcome the situation he was in. For every temptation given by the devil, Jesus stood firm and spoke-out the words of God. Think about the authority that Jesus must have used when he spoke these words…the power that came from his voice. When we look at the scriptures, we see that he had been fasting for forty days and forty night. He was man, made of flesh and I am sure he was tired and thirsty but he knew the power of the words God the Father had written. Jesus knew the authority of the words spoken from his lips. It is this same authority that dwells within us and allows us to speak boldly over our own circumstances.

The last point that made an impact on me was that after the temptation, Angels appeared and ministered to Jesus proving once again that God truly cares for His children. Jesus' priority had been to stay in the will of God and not surcome to temptation. He was not concerned with his own flesh, he did not have his own hidden agenda but he was of his Father's business. And we see that when we have God as the center of our focus, He will always meet our every need both physically and spiritually.

I learned that day that there is nothing more powerful than the spoken Word of God. There is not one circumstance that won't bow down to His word. You see, God's word is holy. His bible carries truths and principles that will never cease to work in our lives, regardless of the era. His word has withstood the test of time, being a source of salvation, encouragement and life to His children. God's word restores and revives us, it brings us closer to Him…it is His written love to us, His cherished children.
