Jesus sits by the water's edge
Without an easel, brush or pen,
And deftly, by the spoken Word
Paints God's truth to the minds of men.

They've heard His speech and seen His deeds,
But their hard hearts can't comprehend;
Concurring with Isaiah's words
When he prophesied of them.

So now in parables He speaks
Of a farmer sowing seed,
To plant the truth within their minds
By the aid of a common deed.

The seed is like the Word of God
And the soils like the heart of men;
The scattered grain will root and grow
If it can only enter in.

The roots must find a depth of soil
In cleared, uncluttered friendly space;
The sprouting seed will surely die
If weeds and thorns have pride of place.

The grain that's sown in fertile ground,
In a well watered sunlit field
Will thrive and grow and produce fruit
With varying amounts of yield.

About two thousand years ago
Is still as relevant today
Wherever farmers plant and grow.

It only is of worth to you,
If its instruction you apply:
The Word of God alone has life;
All other planted words will die.
