Throughout the course of the 2008 Presidential campaign, many politicians, state—men/women and even experienced journalists and commentators appear to be committing the cardinal sin of a public figure—that your private life is no longer private. Modern technologies have made it possible to transmit anything said or done in a matter of seconds around the world. So when a United States Presidential candidate says he will punish and possibly go to war with a long time ally, his statement is understood as what he intends to do no matter how often he denies it. It is especially meaningful when it is said with few in his company. It could cost him the office for which he wishes to be elected. Or when a newsperson, finishes his television broadcast thinking he was off the air, then adds a profane, negative statement about a colleague from another, sister network, he violates this understanding. His statement cost him his job and his career.
At times, we all forget that God is tuned in to all of our thoughts and conversations. We also forget that He sees ALL of our actions. We may fool each other by the pious statements we make in public and the good acts (gestures) we appear to make but they do not fool God one bit. The Lord sees our true person in public as well those in our private moments.
Likewise, many people spend a great deal of their mortal time trying to impress each other when, in fact, God should be the principle One they should be trying to please. God, unlike humanity, looks beyond acting and looks into each person’s heart for the truth of its condition.
What does God find when He takes a spiritual examination of your heart? What does He find? Is it unconditional love, compassion, mercy, sincerity? Or does He find hypocrisy?
