Does it really matter who you vote for in the elections? Does the leader of a country really "lead"? As most of you know, in the US, we have a very good system of checks and balances. The President really can't do much on his own, for we have congress and the unholy Supreme Court to keep him in check. The same for each of those branches of government, essentially we have a 3 way scale. All in all I would say the system works rather well, we the people have simply put the wrong people in the wrong places.

"Because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger." - 1 Kings 15:30 (KJV)

The emphasis added is my own, and this same phrase is repeated 9 times in 1 Kings. The leader of Israel led them into sin. Now I will grant you that we are agents of free will, and I will also grant you that the kings of Israel certainly played a larger role in the spiritual life of the nation as opposed to today. This does not change the fact that people, and nations as a whole, still look up to the President of the US. This has been true from George Washington to George W. Bush.

The divide is clear throughout history, society follows the leader. And with the media what it is today, it seems we have only one leader to follow, the humanistic ways of the liberal left. When you look at the true facts, there is a clear divide. Washington demanded fortitude, tenacity, and loyalty. He received it from not only his troops but also a newly born nation. Through the help and leadership of Thomas Jefferson (and others), Virginia, as well as the country, now have a very well written guide to democracy through the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Abraham Lincoln held a nation together that lesser men would have let split in two. Fast forward to 1933 and we learned as a nation to look to the federal government to pay our way. I know that many a person practically idolize FDR, but facts are facts, and now we have welfare, socialism security, and many, MANY other government hand-outs. In 1961 & 1992 we gained leaders that made promiscuity seem acceptable. In 1963, we had another President that helped along the legacy of FDR. LBJ helped us to provide socialism health care. He also helped to escalate the Vietnam War, which is often untold in popular media recounts comparing the current situation to Vietnam.

Our pastor just preached a sermon he called "Choose Well"...in fact, are church sign now has on it "Jesus or Hell...Choose Well". I am here to tell you we have chosen miserably over the last century when it comes to our leaders. Through our choices in leadership we popularized in the late 1990's a term, which I will spare you. But suffice it to say that it was more than a term, and led to a spike in certain activities among adolescents. Our choice helped young people sin. Our choices have helped many of our neighbors not work, yet we bear the burden of cost for them to live, eat and receive medical care. Our choices have led to an acceptance of abortion, extra-marital affairs, and a nation that does not value God.

"Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him." - 1 Kings 19:18 (KJV)

If we "choose well", in other words, if we don't bow to societal pressure and our pocket book, if we vote our morals, our soul, instead of our pocket book, we can be a remnant for God in a sin sick nation. We can lead our nation back to respect and righteousness, but we cannot do it with leaders in place that value humanism and sin over God.
