[GENTLE VOICE.]

"Eh........I dunno.

Your RIGHT SIDE?"

[PATIENT SIGH.]

[PATIENT NOD.]

"Too bad he couldn't

somethin'."

[PATIENT SIGH.]
[SMILE!]
"Yes, My beloved."

"So......we're getting
off the topic, Lord.
(Squint up at air vent.)
WELL?"

"Well what."

"Do You hear better,
or Your RIGHT Side,
or NOT?"

"Why do you ask,
beloved?"

"CUZ!
I hardly get any PRAYERS
answered!
(Kvetchy grimmace up at air vent.)
I figured maybe I'm talkin'
on the wrong SIDE!"

[CHUCKLE!]

"So......who sits on Your
LEFT Side, Lord?"

[LAUGH!]

"WELL? Ya know what
I THINK?"

"Well, I don't know
for sure......but, I
hope it's a homeless dog,
Lord."

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"Ya know: some ugly
little mut, who never
had anybody in all his sad little
days......and, ended up on
some dirty alleyway...
and, then got...
put to sleep at the city
pound."

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"And, now he gets to lay at
Your Feet: on Your Left Side."

[PATIENT NOD.]
"I understand, My beloved."

"Ya don't think I'm STUPID?"

[SILENCE.]

"You don't think I'm SILLY?"

[SILENCE.]

"Ya DON'T, LORD?"

"No, Mein kinder."

"Okay.
(Small sigh.)
I just wanted to check."

[PATIENT NOD.]

(Silence.)

(Whisper.)
"I think Ya hear in
both ears, Lord."

"Why, My child?"

"I dunno: I'm just
being optimistic,
for once in my life."

[GENTLE LAUGH.]
"Then pray, child!
[GENTLE VOICE.]
