My husband and I have a cottage that the Lord gave us in 1983. We had just become Christians six months prior when the opportunity of a lifetime was handed to us. We bought this cottage for $13,000 under market value. We could not believe that God would bless us in such a big way.

After we put in our offer and before we heard from the sellers, we were at a Friday night bible study. We had just finished our prayer time, when my husband pulled me into the kitchen. Excitedly, he announced to me that the Lord told him that we were going to get the cottage for the price we wanted, but we had to promise to use the cottage for his glory. “WOW”, I replied. We can do that. Then on Monday we got the word that our offer was accepted.

I think we have done a good job of keeping our promise to the Lord. Each Sunday during the summer, in our little living room at the cottage we have “church”. My husband leads us into the Word as we praise God for his bountiful blessings. Each week, we have different people that are there, depending on who is visiting us that weekend. We have believers, and non-believers, and everything in between that show up on Sunday morning. And many years we have baptisms for people who have turned their hearts to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as they have embraced Him as their personal Lord and Savior. Each baptism is special in its own way. (We have a baptism scheduled for June 28th for our friend Ori Cabacum, if you would like to come)

This past Memorial weekend we had just finished our meal of grilled chicken, baked beans, and coleslaw, when we heard a helecopter up above. We all ran out to see what was going on, and sure enough there was a life flight helecopter hovering over our cottage. We could tell that they were trying to find a place to land. When we ran up by the road to get a better view, it became evident to us why they were there. At the corner of our street were ambulances, fire trucks, and lots of people. We immediately knew it was something bad.

The life flight helecopter finally landed in a field behind our neighbor’s house. We decided not to walk to the corner to find out what the scoop was, since it would just add to the already chaotic scene. However, when a group of guys were walking past our cottage who had been down at the scene of the accident, we stopped and asked them what happened.

These guys shared with us that an elderly lady on a moped was hit by a car. The lady was clinging between life and death, thus the reason for the life flight helecopter. I hardly could take the words in. What a tragic ending to a beautiful weekend.

Last night I could not stop thinking about this lady as I prayed for her. I then began to think of the spiritual parallel. There laid a lady who needed tremendous help. Someone took it upon themselves to call life flight. In fact, they are not usually called unless the person is close to death.

I thought to myself, “What if the lady would have refused their help when they came” What if she would have told them, “No thanks, I’m not interested in your help”. Or worse yet, if she would have claimed that she could get healthy on her own accord and did not need their help.

We would have thought that was ludicrious, correct? But that’s what happens all the time. We Christians, have the answer for dying people all over the world. We know that no one can make it to heaven on their own accord. We know they need to be given a spiritual “life flight” in their lives. It’s only after accepting this “Life Saver” named Jesus are they capable to go to heaven after they die.

But many times when we tell the dying (which we are all in process of) they say, “No thanks. I’m not interested”. And sadly, the only thing we can do is walk away.

Do you understand what I am talking about? Do you find yourself in these kinds of situations? Or worse yet, are you the one that refuses the life line that is being thrown to you? Either way, it is a very sad situation.

I hope this elderly lady recovers and can receive healing due to the life flight that came to her rescue. But more importantly than receive a physical healing, I pray that she is spiritually healed. For Jesus said in Matthew 16:26 - What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?

So the next time a “Life Saver (Savior)” is thrown your way, I hope you grab a hold of Him with all your might. And just like that elderly lady who I hope can thank the ones who saved her someday, I hope you can do the same—thank the One who saved you.

His name is Jesus. Call on Him while there is still time.

For “Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”
How then shall they call upon Him in who they have not believed?
And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard?
And how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach unless they are sent?
Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of
those who bring glad tidings of good things.”
