'Round a campfire years ago,
I conversed with two close friends;
Then, so much I didn't know
Though I thought I knew most things.
Conversation turned to truth,
And we each had points of view;
Each one gave his penny's worth;
Oh, how little we all knew!

I remember, on that night,
Through the fog that dulled my mind,
Like, as if a little light
Had been switched on inside;
I said to my companions
As we talked in riddles then,
It was my firm opinion,
Jesus was God's truth to men.

I was not a Christian then,
And was clueless to the truth.
That light ray that entered in
Birthed a seed that came to fruit.
Many years have now gone past,
Since the time my heart was stirred;
Now, Jesus is my First and Last,
He's my Saviour and my Lord.

Sometimes, I think of that night
And three friends beneath the stars,
When that shaft of Godly light
Shone its rays within my heart:
May they, like me, come to know
The Saviour of their souls
Through that seedling that was sown
At that campfire, long ago.


This is a true story and I believe it to be the first time that I felt the tug of God's Spirit on my heart in my adult life. I am grateful to Him for His great love and mercy that when I was living a life that was far from Him, He was at work to save my soul.
