"While Jesus was in Bethany, in the home of a man known as Simon, the Leper, a woman came to Him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on His head as he was reclining at the table."

Matthew 26:6-7



Holy Spirit-reveal the significance of this scripture, In Jesus name



I really love this scripture for many reasons. In Luke 7, this same account is given, though in more detail. This account describes the woman who annointed Jesus as "a woman who had lived a sinful life" (37), There is nothing in scipture, or in the world more beautiful than the revelation of one who has truly been redeemed. Truly understanding just how amazing Gods grace is, and who Jesus is is by far the best revelation one can ever come by. This particular woman understood this. She annointed Jesus with oil, and tears and used her hair to wipe His feet, and kiss him (v. 38). She was not concerned about herself, nor was she concerned about her dignity, she was concerned only with giving praise where praise is due, She went all out for God and she honoured and blessed Him, and now, "what she has done will be told in memory of her" (Matthew 26:13).



It is easy to be extravagant for God when it costs us little or nothing. when we are in the "mood" or when we have been significantly blessed, it is only natural to want to praise and bless God. However, God calls us higher than that. The woman who annointed Him that day put everything she had in showing Jesus how special He was to her. She went in the presense of His disciples, annointed and godly men, knowing she was merely a sinful woman. However, in the end, Jesus esteemed her higher because He saw her heart.



The disciples were annoyed that she had taken this really expensive perfume and poured every drop onto Jesus, as opposed to saving it for what they thought it ought to be used for-to be sold to give the money to the poor. This particular perfume was meant for the benefit of man, but instead, it was poured out for the glory of God!!! I bet it smelled much prettier on Jesus' feet than it did in that jar. There would always be times to help the poor in Jesus name, but this woman knew that Jesus time on earth was short and she wanted to show HIM how much she loved Him, to His face!



Being like Martha, and doing, doing, doing for God is nice, but being like Mary, and PRAISING, PRAISING, PRAISING God is far greater!!!! God calls us to work for His glory, but before we do that we need to SEE it, and ACKNOWLEDGE it! Take every drop of your "perfume" every ounce of your energy, your resources, your life, and put them at Jesus feet! You will bless Him, and He will honour you in return.
