In our everyday lives we hear profanity and distasteful language. It has even gotten to the point where you can't even watch network television without someone using harsh language. I often try and figure out why I used to talk that way. The only conclusion I can come up with is that I was under a dilusion and thought I had nothing more intelligent to say. I wanted to fit in and talk like an adult and utilmately show my authority. I was really showing how immature I was and revealing my need to conform to the rest of society. When we replace perfectly good words or common phrases with gruesome profanities we show the world how misguided we are. If you think for a minute that the Lord is not taking your lauguage into account, you are wrong. Surely He doesn't like hearing us spew obsenities from our mouths, since that is our main avenue of expression. How we speak and communicate with others says a lot about who we are and what we believe. It is written that under no circumstances, we should ever use Gods' name in vain. Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. I used to talk that way and I thought it was cool, but my eyes were opened and my heart was changed. Today it hurts my heart and my ears to hear that type of language. As Christians let us set the standard for those around us, that we can have interesting, funny, and intelligent things to say without demeaning ourselves with unholy language.
