Jeff Moyer, who lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, faithfully attended church services every Sunday and Wednesday of his life. In addition to his church attendance, Jeff gave the church 20% of what he earned. When asked, Jeff cheerfully volunteered his time to teach religious education classes, served on the church council and donated his time and treasure to widows and the fatherless families in his church and neighborhood. Jeff was well liked and regarded for his contribution by his church and his community.

While watching Monday night football, Jeff closed his eyes. Drifting off, Jeff heard someone call his name. Jeff sat up straight in his easy chair but did not see anyone so he went back to watching the football game. Before 5 minutes passed, Jeff, once again dozed off.

“Jeff!”

“Who is it?” answered Jeff without hesitation.

“I am God, Jeff!”

“What? Who?”

“God!”

“Yes, I am God, Jeff!”

Jeff could hardly contain himself. He was excited such that he was stunned that He was visited by God Himself.”

“God! You don’t look like God! But what do you want?” asked Jeff.

“Jeff”, said the Lord, “We need to talk. You’ve been trying to use Me for your own ends! Jeff, I really do resent you doing that to Me!”

“What! Trick or fool you Lord? No! No! I would never do anything like that! responded Jeff.

“Jeff, do you honestly love Me above all else and all things?”

“Ah, why, yes Lord! You know I do!”

“So tell me, Jeff, if you can, why you do the things that you do? Are you trying to score with Me and think I’m not smart enough to figure out what it is you’re really doing?”

“Lord, ah. I don’t understand what it is you’re talking about!”
“Oh, yes you do Jeff Moyer. That is why we are having this discussion. It really bothers Me that you do all the things you do for show so that people will think you are a holy person. But as far as I am concerned, they mean absolutely nothing to Me!”

“But! But Lord! I really do love you! I don’t understand!”

“Jeff, when have we had a talk like this? How long has it been? Even when you are in church your mind is not on me. You are generally thinking about a football game, how much money is in your bank account, looking upon one of my daughters with lustful thoughts and intent and even thinking illicit sexual thoughts in church when you should be talking to me and reflecting upon the sacrifice My Son made for you. You treat your Christianity as though it is like all of the other religions around you. They are not! In fact, you have said to members of your church that you believe all religions are alike and the same. Where did you come up with this idea? Jeff do you know what a relationship is?

“Yes, I do Lord.”

“So tell Me! Do we have a relationship?”

“I guess I don’t have one with you do I Lord?”

“At this point, I’d say we don’t. So what are you doing is tricking yourself into thinking you have a lock on Heaven when, in fact, you are not even at first base, Jeff Moyer.”

“I’m sorry Lord! I didn’t know! Please, Lord forgive me!”

“Jeff, if you knew Me, then you would know that I forgive all of the time because I love humankind. When Jesus was crucified on that cross, I was crucified too! I and the Son are one! Do you know why you don’t know about My love for you?”

“But Lord, I do what Jesus told me to do!”

“Oh, really! Are you sure?”

“Eh, I don’t know Lord.”

“Jeff, look over there! At your bookshelf! See that book over there! That one! The one that has the one word title on it.”

“The Bible Lord!”

“Yes, Jeff! That’s it! When was the last time you read it?”

“I’ve really have never read it Lord. I don’t really have enough time. I have a really busy schedule.”

“Oh, really! Let’s see! Your typical day is like this Jeff Moyer—30 minutes reading a newspaper (the sports and funnies), 3 hours eating, 8 hours sleeping, 6 hours working, 2 hours watching television, 2 hours on your computer at home, 1 hour to the church or community service, and an hour and a half talking to women or reading those pornographic magazines you’ve got stored away! So you do not really know who I am! You don’t read about what I’ve given to humankind and you never talk to me!”

“I don’t talk to You Lord! What do you mean?”

“You don’t talk to Me, Jeff Moyer!”

“What do you think prayer is, Jeff Moyer? Humm! So you don’t know Me and you won’t talk to me because you don’t have the time! So, in your opinion, Jeff Moyer, do you have a relationship with Me?”

“I guess not Lord.”

“You guess! I know everything about you and as far as I am concerned. I do not know you to be a follower of My Son, Jesus Christ!”

“What do I do Lord?”

“Are you not listening?”

“Yes, I am Lord. But the Bible is hard to understand. Everybody says it is too!”

“Jeff, Jeff, Jeff! Why do you listen to the followers of Satan? My Word is clear. There is nothing to interpret. Open it up and just start reading! You are an intelligent person. Everything you’d ever want to know about Me is in it!”

Thank you Lord!”

“No problem! Just start managing your time and give Me some of it. I have some really special projects I want you to do. However, I am not going to give you any important things to do if you aren’t willing to follow My commands. Now some of my assignments are not going to be easy. A lot of people will hate you. They will say evil things about you, try to make you look stupid and even try to kill you because they hate Me. Are you up to it, Jeff?”

“Yes, Lord I will do all that you’ve ask! I am really sorry for having offended you and I really love you Lord.”

“I love you too, Jeff Moyer. You will find that when you read the Bible and pray daily and often, you know that I am with you. Mind you yours prayers do not have to be long. I really do like the short prayers from the heart. They are the best ones! And one more thing.”

“Yes, Lord!”

"Get rid of your pornography it is an abomination to me! That is not sexuality! Sexuality is a beautiful relationship between a man and a woman in marriage. Anything else I condemn. I told you in the Bible not to be deceived! This is your final warning regarding this matter, Jeff!

"Yes, Lord!"

“Don’t worry about getting into Heaven as long as you love Me and follow My Commands. Ignore Me and it will not matter what you do. You won’t even get to Heaven’s gate.”

“I understand Lord, Thank you!”
