Yesterday, I looked in the mirror
and saw a child.
Youthful eyes,
mischievious smile,
carefree life,
innocent thinking.

Yesterday, I looked in the mirror
and saw a girl.
Shy, secure,
filled with love,
eyes finding the
world a little
different everyday.

Yesterday, I looked in the mirror
and saw a teenager.
A halfway between.
Not a child,
not an adult,
yet so close to the latter.
Heart yearning for--
what?--
she never can tell.
Life is so confusing.

Today, I looked in the mirror
and saw something
I was not prepared for.
I saw a glimmer of
maturity.
Time tested wisdom,
still not yet fully bloomed.
I saw a heart that has felt
things I had before
only dreamed about.

Tomorrow, I will look in the mirror
and see a woman.
Graceful, beautiful,
a fully formed heart.
She smiles at her daughter,
the child,
the girl,
the teenager,
the young lady.
In her eyes a sparkle
that says,
"I have been there too."
