Longing for a Rainbow


Raging river splashing, crashing to the shore,
the blistering wind howling in the pouring rain,
rising water frigidly cold knocking on the door,
as nature comes bringing such anguish and pain.

Lightening strikes lighting up the darken sky,
thunder cracks exploding with a rolling road,
inclement weather where some will surely die,
wanting it to stop, we keep getting even more.

Sand bag after sand bag, each piled one by one,
while the raging water keeps rising in the night,
attempting to survive one’s work is never done,
as nature’s raw fury creates such an awful fright.

Cold, wet, and tired we face this disastrous fear,
such constant power and might beyond compare,
while the climbing waters keeps coming so near,
on the rooftop we huddling in a blanket we share.

Then, without warning, in dawn’s light, it’s gone,
feeling the warmth of the sun as it begins to shine,
there’s a rainbow of color for which we forever long,
arching across the blue sky descending into the Pines.
