I love to write things down! I am either making a list or checking things off a list! If I’m in a church service I’m writing down notes from what the speaker is saying, and what the Holy Spirit is speaking to me. God tells us in the book of Habakkuk to write the vision plainly so that everyone who reads it may then run with that vision.

Have you ever noticed that once you write something down it seems more real to you? Even if you try to erase it, you can usually see some traces of what you wrote. Do the words we speak work the same way? Look at Psalm 45:1; it says, “My heart overflows with a good theme; … My tongue is like the pen of a ready writer.” Our tongue is compared to a pen! That means that what I am saying is being written on my heart. I love that! Now look at what Proverbs 3:1-3 says:

“My son, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments. For length of days and years of a life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death], these shall they add to you. Let not mercy and kindness and truth forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them upon the tablet of your heart.”
Notice, it says to write them upon the tablet of your heart, but how do you write on the tablet of your heart? With your tongue! The tongue is the pen!

Psalm 45:1 says the tongue is the pen of a what? A ready writer! I’d say it’s time we get ready to write! Actually, we are already writing something on our hearts, whether it’s good or bad! It’s time to make sure we are writing good things! How? By saying what God’s Word says about us, our situation, and our lives! Stop speaking out what others are saying about you, what the world says about your situation, and what the devil says about your life. In fact, you may need to change what you have been saying about yourself! If it’s not what God says, don’t say it!

You see, God gave your tongue a power that is unique to itself. Let’s look at that for a moment. There are several avenues into the heart, which include:
1) What you see (the eyes)
2) What you hear (the hearing)
3) What you speak (the tongue)
Now, what I see and what I hear enters in through my eyes and through my ears. When I speak, however, I am not only depositing something into my heart, I am also bringing something forth from my heart. The mouth will plant it and will turn back around and harvest it! What you habitually say, you are writing on, or establishing within, your heart. And, that which is stored up within your heart will eventually come out of your mouth.

It is absolutely vital that we purpose to use our mouths to speak God’s Word and so establish His Word in our hearts.

Write God’s Word on your heart. It won’t happen by accident or coincidence! It is an act of your will in line with God’s will that causes change in your life.

I challenge you to purpose to write God’s Word on your heart so that it is coming out of your mouth and changing your view, your circumstances and your life!
