Old Testament jokes."

"And, the irreverent
questioning over
Our New Testament."

[SMILE.]

"And, the irreverent
murmuring over Hebrew:
Your favorite language."

[NOD.]

[SIGH.]
"And, the cats."

[NOD.]

[SIGH.]
"And, all the years of the locusts."

"Absolutely.
That's what You're for."

[SIGH.]
"Oy gah veld."

[NOD.]

"Perhaps, the need to write
should not be knit in."

"No.
Absolutely not."

[SIGH.]

"Not to mention
the cats."

[PATIENT NOD.]

[SIGH.]
"Father, I just think
she could be born
into a nice
Chinese family."

"No."

[SIGH.]
[SHAKE HEAD.]
"What about a nice
Eskimo family?
[SIGH.]
We really need to
talk about this!"

"No.
It must be Jewish,
or nothing."

"Oy vey."

[NOD.]

"Perhaps, then,
at a different TIME?
There is all that
irreverent sassiness,
over the internet,
to be considered!"

[PATIENT NOD.]
"Absolutely."

"And, the cats."

[NOD.]

[SIGH.]
"And, all the irreverent and
cynical sarcasm.
[THOUGHTFUL PAUSE.]
Perhaps, Philadelphia....
should not be her place of birth."

"No.
It is the only place."

[SIGH.]
"Oy."

[PATIENT NOD.]

"Then there's all the kvetching,
for fifty or so years."

[FATHER GRUFFLY NODS,
AND THEN LOVINGLY SMILES.]
"Do it.
It's almost time."

[SIGH.]
"Alright, Father."
[SHAKE HEAD]
[SIGH ONCE MORE.]
"Here goes."
