Larry Lilly's Letter Tuesday May 6, 2008

Johnny Cash used to lament that Love Is A Ring Of Fire, therefore may I submit that Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his Pastoral successor are deeply in love with noted Presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The New York Post pointed out on April 30, 2008 in an article by State Editor Fredric Dicker that "A lot of people don't believe it any more when Obama says he loves the man who did so much for him." Religion expects you to be loyal for life if said religious person/group ever does something for you.

To compound the Sitcom, Obama's new pastor at Trinity, Otis Moss, publically subscribed to the outrageous statements of Pastor Wright as true on National Public Radio. And this after Mr. Obama had publically called him "A wonderful young pastor." Now Rev. Wright is suffering the throes of betrayal by distancing and it is payback time much in the figurative if not literal method of the infamous African National Congress methods of an earlier time. On July 4, 1986 The National Review published an article by Brian Crozier, titled, Indivisible Terrorism. Notice the excerpt from a speech by Winnie Mandela the former wife of Nelson Mandela:

"Addressing a crowd of black South Africans in Munsieville, Mrs. Mandela had this to say: 'Together, hand in hand, with our boxes of matches and our necklaces, we shall liberate this country.' By "necklaces," she was referring to the charming practice of filling an automobile tire with gasoline, placing it around somebody's neck, and setting it alight."

The "Necklace" was often reserved for someone who had defected.

Now, having brought outrage to some who will misunderstand the purpose of the preceding comments, I will set about unveiling a truth that I wish were not true.

A study of groups, be they secular, Christian, or whatever, will show they all attach a penalty for violating the deeply held truth and "freely" given love and help of said group. Some groups are so petty as to "shun" a fellow congregant who leaves the group that prays with right nostril dominance for one that really believes the left nostril to be more godlike. That each group loves Jesus does not matter. This mentality also infects bowling teams, softball teams, you name it. I recall a small businessman who happened to be a very good open class softball player being driven into bankruptcy due to his switching teams. Talk about a figurative necklace.

Recently I questioned a man who is a friend of many years about his current association with a group of folks that he formerly strongly disagreed. He dropped his gaze and admitted, "I have a family." That Adam's race will associate for financial/political, even religious gain is well documented. That we, especially "we" who are of the new race of Christ are to be above such is also well documented scripturally. Furthermore, we who name Christ are not to figuratively give ANC necklaces, but to do all things possible to retrieve an erring brother or sister.
