I know many people in trouble. To my knowledge I've never met them all, and I honestly don't know everything about what’s wrong with their lives. But God does and sometimes I have feelings of sadness, loss, fear, or anxiety. I know He is calling me to pray for them. He even wakes me up in the middle of the night with alarming dreams or pain, and all I can do is pray.

It may seem a little strange to think that God is using me to pray for someone else during my own discomfort. However, Jesus prayed for all believers on the night He was arrested. In John 17:20-21 (NIV), Jesus Christ is praying to the Father, ‘"My prayer is not for them [the disciples] alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.’ The apostle Paul writes, in Romans 8:26 (NIV), “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” I might be praying for another believer or someone else to come to repentance/salvation in Christ and might not even know it.

I know very little about the power of prayer, only what is revealed in Scripture. Conversely, I do know my God is very powerful. As is His Christ, through His death and resurrection He gave us the chance to repent and to have salvation. Please take the time today to pray for someone else's repentance or salvation -- someone you don't know.
