After weeks and weeks the writst and shoulder began to get muxh better with just periodic pain that was bearable. It was the knee where the stubborn piercing pain would just not go away. This pain would still make it difficult for William to sleep comfortably, robbing him of energy for the next day. Along with geing tired from lack of sleep, he would have to sometimes drag his leg aroung to do anything. The doctors couldn't find any damage in theknee and told him that it was probably just arthritis form the result of being bruised from the fall of the accident.
Here is where tha plot thickens: When it rains it pours. while Dad was having his physical problems my Mom was diagnosed wit a form of cancer still in its early stages, but serious enough to require chemotherapy. The treatment drained her of energy and affected her psychologically. It took her appetite away and caused heer to lose weight as well. Thanks to ongoing improvement of medical science the chemo treatment that Mom had taken was much milder than the usual harsh treatment that can have such a devastating affect on patients. These trials alarmed the families to all rally togther and help in any way possible. My brothers and sisters came from Los Angeles, Oakland and San Francisco to lend their support. My Mom's sister, Aunt Muffin, came from Austin Texas and stayed a month and a half to care for her sister. There were so many calls from other relatives and friends that offered thair love, support and prayers. All these thngs mean so much to a person that is going through any kind of a trial. They help carry them through.
What complicated the matter of Alma's condition is that she suffers from diabetes and must give herself insulin injections. As the chemo treatment affected her appetite she had trouble eating the way a diabetic should, which is small meals throughout the day. This caused her blood sugar to drop too low and she experienced a few fainting episodes. This scared the daylights out of her husband, William. She had to be hospitalized between chemo treatments for blood transfusions a few times, because of a low blood count. At Mom's advanced age she suffers at times from arthritis, and all the inactivity of hospital beds and chemo treatment aggravated it. When no one else could be available my Father had to help her with all physically related activity, because of her weakness and joint pain. This included cooking, washing, helping her dress, and any other everyday activity. William cannot stand the sight of blood, and hates needles. This has been a phobia for him his entire life, but for the love of his wife he learned to check her blood count, along with insulin injections. despite the terrible pain in his knee, the aching shoulder and wrist, lack of energy from losing sleep he pressed on. William learned to to things around the house that he had never done before throughout the entire marriage. Dad had always been selfemployed and worked very hard to provide for his family. Mom stayed home, also working hard with the children, while cooking, cleaning, washing, and yes spanking when we needed it. Chores were delegated to four knuckle-head boys, and according to my sisters, also two innocent and precious girls.
