Bringing God Into Our Midst
We know that God is always with us, but we must find ways to bring God into our hearts and lives. It is not enough to simply go to church and spend a few hours once or twice per week with the Lord. We must also learn to bring God into our midst rather than just going to a building designated as the Lord’s house. Bringing God into our midst means to think, speak or quote a scripture when we touch or see an object in the natural. For example, when we get up in the morning and turn on the light, when we say, “And God said let there be light and there was light, we are bringing God into our midst. In my own walk with the Lord I have found that quoting scriptures and praying helps to keep the devil at bay. James 1:22 says, “But be ye doers of the word, and not just hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” This means it is not enough for us to read and listen to the word, but we must also learn to apply the scriptures to our daily living. Bringing God into our midst means we must find ways to bring the peace of God into our lives. We may do this by listening to music or by sitting in a quiet place and meditating on God’s word. As Christians we should not start our day without prayer first and then bible study. When we have prayer and bible study first thing in the morning we are inviting God into our day and letting Satan know that he is not a welcome part of our lives.
Bringing God into our midst helps us not only with our personal spiritual growth but it also helps us to build stronger relationships with our family and friends. Bringing God into our midst means to talk to God about everything and realize that nothing is too great or too small to take to the Lord in prayer. It means taking time out of our busy schedules to speak to God and allow God to speak to us. Bringing God into our midst means establishing a relationship with the Lord and not just being acquainted with Him. When we are only acquainted with someone, we do not spend quality time with that person or tell that person our innermost thoughts and feelings.
When we bring God into our midst we can find something to smile about even in the midst of the storms of life. We must learn to focus on the positive aspects of our lives rather than the negative. In essence, we must focus on only the things that are pleasing in God’s sight and lean not unto our own understanding. Ephesians 6:11 says, Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. We must arm ourselves with biblical scripture and not physical weapons or harsh words.
