My Aged Soul

When I was young and brave
I had but one desire,
to move the hearts of men,
and set the world on fire.

But with the days gone by
determination bred defeat,
and my fire tested soul
could not survive the heat.

Somewhere along the way
my pleasure turned to pain.
My hope began to dwindle,
and my faith began to wane.

Now staring in the mirror
it has begun to seem
I’ve settled to exist
and lost my will to dream

But in this withered life,
through every twist and bend
somewhere, somehow I know I shall
regain it once again.

My purpose has not vanished.
My mission is in tact.
My god is in control.
He’ll show me the way back.
