I Have No Man
There once was a young man who suffered from depression. He felt as if his life was going no where fast. It seemed like everyone around him was moving with energy and passion, doing things that he could only imagine doing.
Oh yes, he once had hope. Hope that the shattered shell that was his body might be healed. Hope that he could one day rise up and be counted. Hope that he could walk with his head held high. Hope that his afflictions would just be painful memories. But, over time, his hope began to fade.
His patience had run out the front door and despair had crept in through the back door.
Then one day Someone approached him and asked him if he really and sincerely wanted to be lifted up. Lifted up not just in the body but lifted up out of his depression, lifted up from feeling sorry for himself.
The man said to Someone, “Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me in the pool.” But Someone simply looked at the man and told him to get up, take his bed and walk.
That Someone was our Lord, Jesus Christ and there is a powerful message in that story for all of us today. You see, some of us have fallen into a sense of despair. We feel that we have no choice but to stay lying down in a crippled state because we have “no man” to take us forward.
But God is telling us that if we stop looking at everyone else and turn our attentions fully on Him, He will lift us up. You see, if we do what the crippled man did and stop feeling sorry for ourselves because “we have no man” and focus our hearts and minds on He alone who is worthy of all the honor and praise then, just like Jesus said to the crippled man, He’ll say to Solomon Temple “Rise, Take up thy bed, and walk.!”
