I was kindly invited to a University graduation ceremony recently. I got myself all dressed up and ready to go! I reached in good time but there was a long queue ahead of me—at least 150 people, who had also turned up to support friends and family. Everyone had to be seated by 4:30pm as the ceremony was due to start at 5pm sharp. To be honest, I started to feel a little anxious. “Oh no, I’ll never get a good seat at this rate!” I thought…”I’ll have to stand at the back”. I noticed myself becoming more and more anxious. Anyway, I eventually reached the door and hastily took out my ticket to show to the person who was directing the visitors. I had just gotten my ticket on the day and never had a chance to take a good look at it. However on reaching the door I noticed in the bottom right hand corner of the ticket was written “U44”. I sighed in relief and thought to myself again…”Oh, my seat is reserved...I didn’t need to worry at all”. I proceeded to my seat U44 and indeed as expected, it was nice and empty—waiting just for me!  As I sat down, I could hear the Lord saying to me in my heart “See, there was no need for you to be impatient”. I probably should have realised from before that there was no need to rush, that my seat was named and reserved. This situation—though it was a simple matter—reminded me of the fact that God works in a similar way to that University ceremony. Like my seat—everything that God has promised you is specifically assigned to you. No one who seems to be in front of you ‘in the queue’ can get what he has given to you! He has gone ahead of you and made all the arrangements. In fact, concerning your very life, Ephesians 1:4 says God by His grace chose us to be His children before the foundation of the world!!! If God has already done all that for us (without us even asking), we shouldn’t worry about anything else! What He has promised, He will do, in His time, in His way (see Numbers 23:19).
