The dark clouds rumbled as they rolled across the sky
And the brightness of the lightning made me shudder
The rain poured down so heavy that you couldn't see three feet
And it filled the tank and overflowed the gutter

It wasn't long before the dusty plains did turn to mud
And the river started rising with intent
When the lightning and the thunder slowly eased to our dismay
But the drizzling rain was still encouragement

Cause the farmers and the locals often prayed for rain like this
Always holding up their heads so high with hope
That their livelihoods would flourish and the rain would wash away
All their doubts and fears of struggling to cope

The clouded sky expanded to ensure it had set in
And the falling rain continued on for days
The swollen river broke it's bank and spread the water wide
Flooding paddocks where the cattle graze

But the farmers were not bothered cause their loss was only small
For the flooding waters meant much more to them
And as they celebraed brighter futures all around
The clouds broke and the sun shone once again

So although there prayers were answered and the woes were washed away
There will always be a season that is dry
Where the farmer tilts his hat and hopes to see the rumbling clouds
Roll across and darken up the sky
