We have 24 hours in a day and 168 hours in a week. How many of those do we spend with God? We schedule our time for work, our baseball games, our doctor's appointments, why not schedule time daily with God? Our Bible readings at church today centered around things that stand in our way of a closer relationship with God. Maybe we need to look closer at these areas in our lives and see what may be standing in our way to a more spiritual relationship with God.
1. My possessions. Am I spending too much time caring for or acquiring possessions? Are my possessions more important to me? Would I give up all that I had if it meant being closer to the Lord? Am I sharing my worldly wealth with Him?
2. My habits. Do I read scripture daily and have a daily prayer time with God? Do I stop by the church for a visit and to say a prayer or light a candle? Do I turn down activities that interfere with my time with God? Do I attend services weekly and more often throughout the week?
3. My feelings and emotions. Do I treat others with love and respect? Do I hold grudges or feel angry toward others? Am I able to forgive others when needed?
When we join a sports team or our children sign up for a sports league, we are dedicated to getting them to all the practices so they can play in the game. Our lives revolve around the schedule that they give us. Why not sign up for God's team and make your prayer time and scripture readings like practices so you can play in the "game."? I know God wants all of us on His team and playing in His game.
