Beyond Myself

I sit alone in an empty room
Surrounded by four walls made of mirrors
My downcast reflection is all I can see
In a never-ending pattern that has nothing
Beyond myself

My plans, my problems, my pains, my pride
Stare back at me continually
I feel discouraged and alone in here by myself
Thinking there is nothing much
Beyond myself

Outside of the room I hear sounds
Of people laughing and living free
I want to escape and be with them,
See what I'm missing and what lies
Beyond myself

I pray to the Lord, my Father, my Creator
My Savior, my Redeemer, my Friend
To hear my prayers, to see me now
Help me escape from this prison I'm in and join them
Beyond myself

I look up and see cracks in the mirrors,
Slowly spreading through the wall in front of me
Holes form, fresh air and bright light breaks through
And I look out to see what is
Beyond myself

People, with their own sorrows and joy
Look for someone to listen, someone to care,
I realize that there are many like me who need a friend
And need someone to reach out
Beyond myself

My Rescuer breaks the wall and leads me through
To love His sad and lonely children outside
My problems begin to shrink away, my heart suddenly grows
And for a moment I forget about me and only see you
Beyond myself

Phillipians 2:4

If we could get our minds off of self, no telling what we could do. Thats depression for you though but there is a way out. A lot of hanging on to God with everything we have in us and a lot of work on our part.
