Joshua fit the battle of Jericho,

Riiiiight up to the walls of Jericho, he marched with spear in hand
Ole Joshua commanded those children to shout!
Cause the battle am in my hand

Neat little story, huh? Joshua marches his army around a city for several days, then several times around on one day, cuts loose with a horn section- and down come some layers of protection that surrounded a city, made it feel safe. Then in went the warriors to defeat the enemy within.

Nice little paradigm for God's warriors, actually. There was repeated obedience; a practiced approach- and the defenses melted away. Worked with a city, works with people. Jericho is geographically a city, a collection of people with evil intent. Conceptually Jericho is one person with an impenetrable wall of defense, dealing with the world from behind that wall. Inside is any number of demonically inspired ways of protecting themselves. It takes spiritual tools to deal with them.

But notice Joshua. He says, "the battle am in my hand". What confidence! What steadfast attitude that with obedience and the means to deal with the opposition within, this is a done deal. Joshua had his role down, and he had God's role down. Approach, speak to the issue, and let God do the rest. There was what Joshua knew what he could do, what only God could do, and it made a winning plan.

Music theorists have long wondered what natural phenomenon could have taken part to make a very thick brick wall come down at the sound of horns. The world cannot allow a miracle; it's just too out of their minds. Miracles don't belong in our heads, they belong in our hearts. That's where faith is, because it lies out of the realm of our possibility.

It always takes a miracle to get to Jericho.
