I recently attended a writing workshop and one exercise we had was to write something of up to 300 words on the topic of ‘Water’. This is my effort, done in the last 30 minutes of our lunchbreak.
-------------

I look up at the sky and I’m captured by the picture I see. Swirls of cloud stretch out like rows of ocean waves – white crests of surf on a wild and raging sea. There’s water up there and it strikes me how the water in the sky looks like the water on earth.

Suddenly I am overwhelmed by the cosmic pairing of these vast global spheres. What an amazing world… and who am I? I stand, arrested by the notion of greatness.

More water now, but this time it is rolling down my cheeks. Salty water, warm and slow. I think of this creation, this exhalation of God and I am humbled… and reassured.

When all the activities that surround me, threaten to distract and distort me, this fluid-filled planet draws me back. The metal, the plastic, the technology and ideas of man are just flotsam on this world of water. And we, who are 90% water, are drawn to the Living Water.

They say water finds its own level…. Perhaps that is how God made us: to be attracted to the living things around us – the sky, the trees, the terrain and all that has been created. The fluid that sustains us, the lifeblood of our soul, is flowing all around this planet. God breathed existence into this world, and the condensation of His breath remains.

The clouds have shifted now, with tendrils of mist spreading and interconnecting across the atmosphere. They look like fingers reaching out to make contact. I smile and understand. I whisper to myself, “Hello, God.”

I did some research afterwards and found out the human body is only up to 80% water. Sorry... I hope this inaccuracy doesn't detract from the article.
