“Fitting in” is of high value in this world. People will starve, gorge, spend, invest, hurt other people or themselves, pierce, tattoo, become addicts, have injections and/or surgeries, work themselves to death, go into debt -- whatever it takes for them to become just like everyone else. However, when a person becomes a Christian, they should no longer look to the world for value but to God through the sacrifice and the example of the Lord Jesus Christ. In Psalm 4:3 (NIV) David writes, “Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD will hear when I call to him.”

Being “set apart” is living to follow the example of Christ -- living in obedience to God. However, God did not design every Christian to have the same abilities, skills, and talents. Also, in Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV) David writes, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Therefore, being “set apart” does look very different from one Christian to another. Christians fit together in love to form the body of Christ, while Christ Himself is the head (Ephesians 4:15-16).
