The Spider

One morning I awoke and looked up on the wall,
And staring in my face was a spider big and tall,
To a tiny little girl, it seemed a monstrous thing,
But now looking back I find it quite amusing,

I cried for a little while before I called your name,
You came and rescued me, from the fear this spider became,
You sat me on your knee and wiped away my tear,
You told me Daddy Long Legs are good and I had nothing to fear.

Throughout my life to come from that day and down through the years,
I have faced many other spiders, and many other fears,
The lesson that I learned was just the same indeed,
That the thing I fear the most, may be the thing I need!

So thank you Dad for your lessons you have tried so hard to teach,
And thank you for the hope that one day I would reach,
And take the fears of life and make them as my friend,
To give me strength and courage, to endure until the end!
