It happened early
one evening
in a church service.

The music played,
the congregation and solists sang,
and then we prayed.

Your touch came as a surprise.
But, oh what a joy
to know that you care for me.

As my head was bowed in prayer,
your loving arm on my shoulder
expressed such concern.

Those fallen tears
on my Bible
must have told you of my need.

Then and there
you came to meet my need
just with your touch.

To me,
your touch said,
I know, I understand.

Saying it then
reassured me you did
understand how I felt.

But my need,
it lingered.
And so did your touch.

Others might see,
and just let me be.
But you didn't.

Yes,
you understood.
Thanks ever so much.

That simple gesture
in time of need
showed what a true friend you are indeed.
