The Unknown Lady 1/6/08 revised 3/23/08

I see her walking down the street
And wonder why Your hand so sweet
Has made so slow her feet.

Her back is bowed
As if under a heavy load
As she shuffles down the road.

I see her walking everywhere,
But, why, I feel, I do not dare,
Stop, to tell her that I care.

I want to stop and ask her why
She always seems about to cry,
But my actions always myself belie.

Oh help me Lord, to stop, one day,
Instead of passing on away
And let me speak and hear me say,

“Lady, I don’t know your name,
But you and I are much the same,
And many times I never came,

“To stop and ask if I could lend a hand,
Or tell you about a far-off land,
And I have not obeyed a command

“To tell you about my Savior’s love,
Or His Spirit, soft as a dove,
Or my Heavenly Father from above.

“But on this day, my new-found friend,
Let me at last your ear now bend
To tell you how life can never end,

“And let me sweep you off your feet
And take you to my Lord to meet
The One Who can make your life complete.

“Jesus, with Whom we need no fear,
To Whom we can come to while we’re here,
Who is the One we can find so dear,

“Who saves us from our sin so deep
And asks us to sit right at His feet
And wipes our tears to no more weep.

“And He promises everlasting life,
No more sickness, no more strife,
Only forever in His Light!

“Now lay you down in His arms,
He’ll keep you safe from all life’s harms,
And swift away from all alarms,

“And as you drift off sweet in sleep,
Remember He will always keep
You within His fold, as His sheep.”
