I Thirst

I thirst for Jesus.
I hunger for heaven.
I long for glory.

But still……I struggle here.

Why did Jesus say “I Thirst” on the cross? Was it merely a physical thirst? Or was it at that moment when all the vile sins of mankind were on His head that He thirsted for the righteousness of His Heavenly Father? The fellowship and Oneness they had was broken as God turned away from Him. He was separated from God for the first and only time throughout all eternity. He gave up His deity on the cross and fully surrendered to God’s will. Remember He said he could have called ten thousand angels to come for Him, but…..He didn’t, for our sake.

I believe He may have been actually thirsty - He probably hadn’t had water for many hours. But more than anything, I think He was thirsty for His Father. He again wanted to be consumed with the Father’s love that He had always experienced.

As a Christian, can you imagine a life totally separated from God? Think about how Jesus must have felt at that moment. As darkness covered the earth in the middle of the day, He endured an agonizing sorrow that we will never understand in this life.

There are times when I am so discouraged with this dark, tainted world that I too thirst for God. I want to be consumed by Him. Sometimes, I just want Him to take me home. I want to know Him fully…..I thirst for His righteousness.

Oh to be consumed with His light!
To be permeated with His love!
To be as He is….to know Him fully!

But still……I struggle here.

God says, every one that is thirsty in spirit, every one that is weary and sad; Come to the fountain, there’s fullness in Jesus, All that you’re longing for: come and be glad! “I will pour water on him that is thirsty,
I will pour floods upon the dry ground;
Open your hearts for the gifts I am bringing;
While ye are seeking Me, I will be found.”.....Thanks for sharing this Julia. I am thirsty for more of Him too...Hugs
