Faith

A fierce storm...
muddy water rages,
undercurrents draw me under,
covers my core with muck.

I cannot see,
impossible to hear,
my sense of direction's awry,
lost, lost, amid all this fury.

Alone, no one to lend me a hand,
sinking in a cesspool of self-pity,
looking for a way to escape,
echoes...die or live...resound in my mind.

I reach out...plead -- help me,
don't allow me to plunge into the pit of torment,
lift me up, permit Your light to find me,
guide me to Your nail scared hands.

Where I can find everlasting peace,
cleanse this muck hugging within,
let me cling to You precious rock of ages,
never to return to the obscurity surrounding me.

Remove these shackles...
refusing my entrance to meet You,
guide me to Your nail scared hands,
lead me into Your kingdom to live.
