Will It Be My Way Or His Way?
© 2008

by

Stephen A. Peterson

A young man, Dominic Gonzales (not his actual name), was a priest before he died, was asked, “Did you think of leaving the priesthood?”

“No, I really never did,” he answered thoughtfully. “But I did waver once before I took my final vows. While at Saint Gregory’s Abbey one afternoon, I felt so frustrated, tired and confused about the daily routine of a Benedictine monk. Following out evening meal, I went to the chapel to tell the Lord that the Benedictine life and, especially the priesthood, were not for me. But then something very strange and unusual happened. I heard these words as distinct as a person sitting next to me, ‘Don’t tell Me that you, too, are going to turn your back on me?’

“…And you know, I had no response for Him. I just sat there stunned that Jesus would even show interest me after I what I had done or was planning to do.

There is a lesson here for any person, especially a Christian, tempted to do anything without any consideration of what Jesus would have us to do. Whether the act is temptation, sin or God’s intended vocation for a person, try discussing with Jesus as to what you plan to do to BEFORE you consider doing it.

If you are truly a Christian, you will find that the temptation, sin or denial of His intended plan for you will melt away toward doing His will whatever it may be. Happiness will be yours. It is His promise!
