As My servant
Isaiah has walked
naked and barefoot
for three years
as a sign and portent
against Egypt .....
so shall the king of Assyria
lead away the Egyptians
captives....
with buttocks uncovered..
[Isaiah 20:3-4]

Two years, eleven months,
and 23 and 1/2 days have passed.
(Outside in the backyard.
Curdsey, Isaiah's favorite
cow, is laying in the shade
with her newest calf,
Milk n' Honey. The smell
of manure, and fresh
berries are in the air.)
"Hey, LORD?"

[SILENCE.]

"Lord?
LORD?
Where ARE YOU?"

"I'm right Here,
Isaiah. What is it?"

"What'd Ya mean:
What is it, Lord!
Just LOOK at ME!"

[SOLEMN NOD.]
"Yes, My Beloved.
You have done well,
as My prophet."

"Uh......yeah, Lord.
That's what I wanted
to talk to You, about."

"Go on, My child."

"Eh......would You MIND
if, eh......I could sorta
QUIT: a few days EARLY?"

[PATIENT NOD.]

"Is that a YES....
or, a NO, Lord?"

"Yes, child."

"OH! GREAT!
Ya mean, I can put
my CLOTHES back on,
NOW?"

"Uh uh, Isaiah.
I meant: yes,
I would mind."

"Aw! Come ON, Lord!"

[OMINOUS PAUSE.]
[WIND SHAKES TOP
OF ISAIAH'S FAVORITE
BERRY TREE.]
"What was that, child?"

(Some berries fall off
the windswept tree.
Isaiah, never one to let a
good berry go to waste,
grabs them off the
top of his scruffy head,
plunking them into
his stubby mouth.
A couple berries fall
inbetween his bare toes -
getting squashed.)
"Eh......I meant, eh.....
sure, Lord! Whatever
You SAY!"

"Who is your Lord,
child?"

"Eh....YOU are, Lord!"

[SOLEMN NOD.]
"And, Who has
given the prophet
Isaiah, an important
duty to fulfill?"

"Eh....I guess,
YOU, Lord."

[SOLEMN NOD.]

"Yeah, Lord....
I know it's been
real fun, and all,
but....."

"But what, My beloved?"

"Well......the thing is,
Lord......me and the missus
got invited to this wedding
next Thursday night."

"Go on."

"Well......eh, the
thing is, Lord.....I know
I've got this particular
mission to fulfill, and all,
but...."

"Spit it out, child."

(squirm.)
(smack at an ant
crawling on the squashed
berries on his sticky bare toes.)
"Well, LORD!
I can't go like THIS!
I just CAN'T!"

[SLOW NOD.]
"I see your dilemna, child."

"WELL?
WHAT'D YA SAY?
Ya think we can just
SKIP a couple DAYS?
HUH, LORD?"

"No."

(Isaiah waves away
a huge bumble bee.
The bee lazily buzzes
off the next door,
to the nosy neighbor's
yard.)
"Please, Lord?
PLEASE?
I know the missus
would really
appreciate it!
Just for ME?"

"No, My beloved.
I am counting on you.
This time shall pass."

(squirm.)
(dejected sigh.)
(scratch at an
ant bite...that's
not on his big toe.)
"Yeah....okay, Lord.
I see what Ya mean.
I guess, I better
go on in, and tell the
missus."

"Good, child!
Be brave!
Remember who you
are, My Isaiah!"

"Yeah.
(scratch, scratch.)
You're right, Lord.
I know who I am."

"Who, My beloved?"

"The only guy,
who's gonna be
naked at a wedding,
next Thursday night."
(sigh.)
(scratch.)
(stub bare toe,
walking back into house.)
(wave away another bee.)

[PLEASED NOD.]
"Good, child."

For thus the Lord
said to me;
Go, set a watchman,
let him announce
what he sees.......
Upon a watchtower
I stand,
O Lord,
continually by day,
and at my post
I am stationed
whole nights.
[Isaiah 20:6-8]
