“What does it mean to ‘walk in spirit?’ ” the young lady asked. She had just started coming to church and everything was pretty new to her. The pastor replied, “It is to be in the spirit of faith.” She just nodded, making him believe that she understood his simple yet complicated explanation. But as she went home, still confused by what ‘in spirit’ meant, she prayed.

Her prayer was answered during an incident at her workplace...
One of her colleagues lied and got her into trouble with their manager. The young lady was so annoyed that she grabbed her things and left work early. She didn’t ask her boss for permission—she didn’t speak to anyone—she simply left.

While on the bus, she cried and wondered why God allowed this to happen to her, even though she had been faithful to Him since her conversion a few months back. As she cried, all she could hear from within her heart was, ‘walk in spirit’…

“But Lord, how can You ask me to walk in spirit if You haven’t even taught me what that means?” It was then that without a word, God’s answer became clear. She needed to walk in spirit when things were tough.

She understood that this meant doing everything that goes against her flesh and is in agreement with her faith. She then caught a bus back to her workplace and immediately went to apologise to her boss.

Her boss was so impressed with her attitude that he brushed aside all the lies he had been told about her. He was so impressed with her character that he promoted the young lady to a managerial position over her colleagues.

Examples such as this happen every day to people who truly ‘walk in the spirit’. Troubles come to us all and if we are not in the habit of using our faith as a defence, we’ll end up going by emotions, which often makes things worse.

Acting by emotions is when your husband says something you don’t like and you respond to him in the same manner, causing a whole new argument.

Acting by emotions is when you hear some gossip and without thinking get involved and end up spreading it even further.
Acting by emotions is when you experience terrible customer service and make a scene in public… and so on.

It’s an everyday thing. Either you’re in spirit or you’re not. If you’re in spirit, you react abnormally—differently—as though you're shatterproof. You learn how to look the other way, take a few hard knocks, and walk on by.

People who walk in spirit are always in control of their mood. Those who are of the spirit, walk in the spirit.
So if you are spirit, then walk that way!
