He has gone up from Rimmon,
as He has come to Aiath;
He has passed throug Migron,
at Michmash He stores
His baggage;
They have crossed over the pass,
at Geba they lodge for the night;
Ramah trembles,
Gibeah of Saul has fled.
[Isaiah 10:27-29]

"What ARE these places,
Lord? 'Never HEARD
of 'em?"
"Places, child: from
your history."
"Uh UH, Lord!
You must be thinking
of somebody ELSE!"
"No.
[PATIENT PAUSE]
You, My child."
"Uh UH!
Don't You remember
where I'm FROM, Lord?"
[CHUCKLE.]
"Yes, My precious."
"WHERE?"
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"PHILLY!"
[SMILE.]
"I never HEARD of
these PLACES:
What's 'MICHMASH',
anyway?
How come You don't
talk about REGULAR
places, like Pittsburgh,
San ANTONIO,
or........eh, say,
TORONTO?"
[LOVING NOD.]
"'Ya know, Lord;
I hear about these
people who've read
the Bible, cover to
COVER, in a few
DAYS?"
"Yes, My child.
What of it."
"I don't believe'em.
I mean, even if they
DID, they surely
didn't get that
much, OUT of It!"
"Don't judge others, child."
"Yeah.....I know.
But, I mean......it would
take somebody a
few HOURS, just
to find out where
all these places
WERE, not to mention
HOW to PRONOUNCE
them!"
[SOLEMN NOD.]
"I guess some people
are a lot smarter than
me, huh."
"Perhaps, My precious."
"WOW!
Thanks a LOT!
(laugh!)
Seriously, though.......
Don't You
know what a
'MISHMASH' is,
Lord? It means
'a messy variety of stuff',
or somethin like that."
"The name is 'Michmash',
My beloved."
"Hm.....sounds like the
same thing to me."
[LAUGH!]
"And, I bet it
WAS a real mishmash,
huh, Lord?"
[CHUCKLE.]
(long pause.)
(frown.)
(squint.)
"I don't know if I'm
gonna get through
this Bible study, Lord."
"I'll help you, child."
"Isaiah kinda reminds
me of this class I took
in statistics: I never
had any idea what they
were talkin about, but
I got all A's, by just
memorizing all the formulas."
[NOD.]
"This isn't the same,
My precious."
"Why, Lord."
"Because This,
My child....
I want you to
know by heart."

Cry aloud, O daughter
of Gallim!
Hearken, O Laishah!
Answer her,
O Anathoth!
Madmenah is in flight,
the inhabitants
of Gebim
flee for safety.
This very day
He will halt at Nob,
He will shake His fist
at the mount
of the daughter of Zion,
the hill of Jerusalem.
[Isaiah 10:30-32]
