For us average Joes, the working class, we dream of cashing in the winning lottery ticket or reaping the benefits from money-making ventures we see in emails or infomercials. Why not bask in the glow? After all, we deserve it. Our intentions seem noble. We want to have money for our kids to attend a good school or university; a new home or car, travel, and enjoy the splendors of what the world has to offer.


I’m guilty of it, we all are. Should our single, solitary goal be to strike it rich? Milk
the cash cow so we can shop 'til we drop? Or, do we plan to invest those riches in the poor, the needy, those less fortunate and show the goodness of God to the homeless or those barely making ends meet? Jesus told the Rich man to sell all that he had and give it to the poor. He also said if we have two coats, to give the other away. I’m sure some of us are doing that.

Wanting to be rich is not a sin, perhaps misguided and vain. Yet, if this desire consumes you, then you’re losing sight of what’s important. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul? I don’t think this message is just for the lost, but to those who think getting or having riches just for the sake of it is God’s plan and will. God wants us to share what we have, not to hog it for ourselves.

Some might say God does want us to be rich. There’s no argument there. Yes, He wants to bless us abundantly, but not all blessings from God come in green. Many blessings can be non-tangible. It could be getting a smile or a kind word from someone. Blessings are not measured by how much is in your wallet or bank account. Nor should you measure yourself by that standard, because not every good Christian with multimillion dollar houses, Jets, luxury cars is blessed.

So, in conclusion, don’t let yourself get caught up in the delusion that having more junk, cars, mansions is God's way of showing you're blessed. Besides, you can't take anything with you when you die. Rather, store up your treasures in Heaven. For those who are storing your treasure here, enjoy it while you can before you check out from planet Earth, or when you miss the trumpet’s sound. Amen.
