Larry Lilly's Letter Tuesday February 12, 2008

Ixonia, Wisconsin. Nope, I do not know where it is either. But Judy Sankey saw a sign on her way to work proclaiming a truth that needs to be given much thought in more places. I know I could go on the internet and locate Ixonia, but if you know that, go ahead and do it. At first thought I supposed Ixonia to be Wisconsin's answer to Minnesota's Lake Wobegon, a lovely place.

Anyway, the sign proclaimed:

"Worry is the darkroom where negatives are developed."

Certainly, a young generation walks around on planet earth without the foggiest idea of just what a darkroom is, but that is grand testimony to the progress of our civilization.

The statement is worth musing. Musing along the line of how to tell the difference between thinking and worrying?

Worrying will always find a negative. I remember hearing the tale of an Ohio preacher expounding to all who would listen that no one would ever be able to fly in an aeroplane, it just simply could not be done. And besides the very idea of man flying was against nature and nature's God. While he postulated all the known reasons, his two boys were fooling around with some bicycle parts on the floor of his shop. Orville and Wilbur sure messed up their father's theology. Historically preachers have trouble with curious hardheaded kids.

The worriers of the era knew and codified all the reasons why heavier than air machines could never fly through the air. They worked in the darkroom of their limited knowledge and refused to explore areas where they might learn something. Orville and Wilbur encouraged future generations of youngsters with their statement, "Hey, we love the old guy, but what does he know?"

The prayers/thinkers looking beyond what was known, discovered drawings of Leonardo da Vinci that were aerodynamically correct, just lacking in the method of power and little by little, inch by inch and failure by failure men now fly through the air with the greatest of ease.

In times of prayer/thinking, what is a darkroom for those who worry, becomes Epiphany Palace, the light of God's way dawns in the mind and heart of the prayer/thinker, the path is lighted, The Lord takes the hand seeking guidance and the person is on their way, to paradise. Not hardly, usually the next step and then more prayer/thinking, even yet another failure cycle. On we go.

The little children in our Sunday Schools around the world sing a neat song that will help many frustrated worrying adults into a richer life if they/we will learn the words, sing them and BELIEVE them.

"My Lord knows the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is follow."
