I was standing in a checkout line the other day. I was very much surprised by what I saw. I could not believe it. A woman took a candy bar from a shelf and began to feed herself and her child that was in the cart she was pushing. Her husband did not see her do this and I’m sure she thought no one else did either. She then put the wrapper back and opened another one. She did not pay for the candy they ate. I was shocked and surprised at the nerve of this lady.
I got to thinking about what this lady did. I would not do such a thing. I know I’ve done things that I thought no one was looking. I thought I could get away with it. How foolish we are to think such a thing.
I need to remember the Lord’s eyes are upon me. He sees everything I do and say. He even knows if my attitude is not right.
I just like every one else, need to think about what I’m doing. I should ask myself, “Will this be a stumbling block to someone who is watching me?” I surely don’t want to cause someone to sin because of what I do.
Isaiah 29:15 says, “Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, who seeth us? and who knoweth us?” I may think nobody sees me and I can get away with something. The truth is I can get away with things sometimes, but sin will catch up to you if it’s not until I stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
I would rather my sins go before me to be judged than to follow me to the judgment seat. (See 1 Timothy 5:24) It is better to be honest and repent when I do wrong than to hide it.
