John 1:1, 14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (NKJV).

Promises, promises. Sometimes they are kept, and sometimes they are broken. It really depends on the integrity of the person who makes the promise. Decades ago people didn't need legal contracts to make sure others kept their promises because a person's word was good. His name and reputation were at stake.

Today, I'm afraid, we have to rely on legal contracts because people often make promises when it is convenient, but they fail to carry them out. Integrity isn't always the greatest.

The Bible tells us in John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". You find that in speaking of the Lord Jesus who in John 1:14 says, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."

You see God's Word, His living Word as Jesus Christ, the written Word was the Bible. The integrity of God Himself was so great that He gave His Word and the Word was good. His name and reputation were at steak. He wouldn't fail, He wouldn't lie, and He wouldn't break a promise.

When we think of Christ's coming, the incarnation that God Himself became flesh and blood as the Christchild. Actually, God came to the earth, "You have my word." What a glorious promise kept when He gave us Christ. The promises made in the Old Testament and throughout the scriptures He promised to send that Savior and on the day Christ was born He said, "You have my word."

As you think of this holiday season and Jesus Christ being the living word of God, remember this promise was kept, and not only was THAT promise kept but God keeps ALL of His promises because He cannot lie. Happy holidays.
