I would be remiss and unloving if I chose not to speak concerning an issue I am aware of: namely the issue of homosexuality in the church. Along with that is the idea that people should be open about living this lifestyle, saying one will be happy doing so.

I am using the term "homosexuality" with its original meaning, according to Merriam-Webster: "erotic activity with another of the same sex".

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God."--1 Corinthians 6:9-10

In God’s good grace, He forgave Corinthians who had lived this lifestyle of sin, even though His word groups it with idolatry, adultery, drunkenness and the like. Just as those sins are forgivable, so is this sin.

Yet apparently, a sign of this being “washed” was that they “were” once living this lifestyle. They had repented, ceasing to live this way contrary to God’s will and design.

Scripture teaches that we can be healed if we confess, or agree, with God about any sin. If we so agree we imply repentance. God grants such repentance to anyone who agrees with Him. God’s word never encourages suppressing the sin to oneself, or keeping it under wraps. We are to bring this and any sin into the light.

God is not so concerned with our happiness as He is our holiness, again implying repentance as well as obedience. Those who choose this path will find they are happy because they are at peace with God.

Yes, many are happy; many who are not submissive to God’s will are happy, because they are going their own path. The Bible, like the verse above, indicates the consequence of such a choice. Such happiness will be short-lived in light of eternity.

Maybe that’s why James encouraged the Jewish Christians to “lament, mourn and weep” because of their sin, and seek to draw near to God.
