Season of Change
When people hear the word ‘change,’ it stirs up different emotions. Some people view change as a positive thing and others in the negative. For the committed Christian, change is a very positive thing. The starting point for change is making Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior of your life. An unbeliever does not have the ability to change on their own; they are in bondage to sin. They still have the sin nature that was passed down from Adam’s sin. That can only be washed away through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. A Christian on the other hand has the ability to overcome sin because that sin nature has been washed away and the Holy Spirit now lives on the inside of them. As long as you are on this earth as a Christian, you are in a season of change. When you get to Heaven, there is nothing to change. You will be perfect. So obviously the process of change is taking place in you now. 1 John 3:2-3 reveals to us Christians that the purpose of change is to become more like our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I want to share with you a couple of keys that will help you in the process of change.
Change will take place when you surround yourself with Christians who love the Lord. Proverbs 13:20 says, “He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. The people that you associate with will affect your spiritual life; either positive or negative. When you hang out with Christians who are on fire for Jesus, you will catch that fire in your own life!
Change takes place in us when we encounter the presence of God. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says that we as Christians are being changed from Glory to Glory. There are two Greek words that are translated ‘change.’ One Greek word means to be changed from the outside in, and the other means to be changed from the inside out. The Greek word used in the above verse means to be changed from the inside out. The word ‘Glory’ refers to manifestation or presence of God. So that verse is saying that when we have an encounter with the manifestation or presence of God, we are being changed on the inside. It is impossible to have an encounter with God and not be changed. I want you to notice that it is a process; from Glory to Glory. The presence of God can come in our prayer time, Bible study, church service, and when the gifts of the Spirit are in operation, to name a few. 1 Corinthians 12:7 says, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.” In other words, when the Holy Spirit manifests Himself, it is going to profit you. That is the importance of being connected to a Bible believing, Spirit-filled church.
As Christians, the Holy Spirit is referred to as our Helper or One called along side to help. If you are truly a committed follower of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit will help you make the needed changes in your life. So don’t get overwhelmed with change. Go with the flow. You are being prepared to spend an eternity with the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ!
