No, You’re Not Lost!

Throughout the course of life every so often some of the most memorable lessons to live by come from the most unlikely circumstances.

At the end of the 2007 fall semester at Oklahoma State University, Pam Oliver, 19, and her sorority sister, Vicki Garrett, also 19, drove from Stillwater, Oklahoma to Padre Island to meet Vicki’s parents to celebrate Christmas at their winter resort. As they drove towards their destination, it seemed Pam took the wrong road. They drove for a long, long time without reaching their destination. Finally, totally confused, they turned into a convenience store for directions, gasoline and a little something to eat.

“We’re lost,” Pam stated to the cashier.

“Not really,” she said, “you’re not lost. You and your friend are in the friendly town of Loma Alta, Texas where the air is pure and sweet and the food as good and wholesome as anywhere in the great state of Texas! And you are here!” The cashier took a road map from the display next to her cash register then told the apprehensive students how to find the road they wanted.

Pam and Vicki reached their destination. However, when Pam feels confused, bewildered or lost by the burdens of everyday life, feels that God has forgotten her or faces difficult situations, she remembers what the cashier said to her in the little town of Loma Alta, Texas. Pam can hear Jesus saying to her: “No, you’re not lost, Pam. You’re here! I’m here as well to show you the way!”

What greater comfort does a Christian believer have to know that at anytime, anywhere they are that a Christian can “be here” with Him—especially when we think we are lost! For did not Jesus tell us time and time again that He IS with us always—even in the most frightening and dangerous situations?
